The Power of Remembering Your Purpose

Do you know what happens when you lose sight of your purpose? You often lose sight of your joy, too. There is great power in remembering your purpose.

Do you know what happens when you lose sight of your purpose? You often lose sight of your joy, too. There is great power in remembering your purpose.

You know, when I’m in the midst of all the madness, working on science projects and cooking dinner and doing dishes and basically trying to keep our little world spinning in the right direction, it can be easy to forget the purpose of it all.

I begin to think the projects are about my kids’ performance.

I start to feel like a short-order cook and a bus boy in my own home.

And little by little (or sometimes all at once in a rush) resentment creeps in, and I feel angry about the very blessings I should be thankful for.

All because I forget the purpose.

My kids’ projects are not about performing well.  Instead, they are opportunities to explore, to create, to learn, and to express.  There is no pressure in those purposes.  They don’t drive children to tears.  They bring joy and excitement.

My cooking and cleaning are not about getting one more thing done in an already long day.  They are about serving the people dearest to me.  They are simply love lived out sacrificially.

Do you hear that?  Those things that wear you down and wear you out can actually be acts of worship.

If you remember the real purpose behind them.

Thank you for this reminder! It can be so easy to get bogged down in the details and to forget our greater purpose. (Visiting from FMF)

Thank you for visiting! It’s easy to get bogged down, but we don’t have to stay that way. I hope to see you at FMF again this week!

So true- it’s easier to do tasks that sometimes seem mundane when we keep in mind the purpose behind them.

It is! But I have to remind myself of that daily.
