Recently, I received a Kentucky Legend Smoked Ham to review, and let me tell you: it was delicious! I am a little bit picky about ham so I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. You see, my mom makes the most beautiful hams for every holiday, and hers is almost the only ham I’ll eat. So, while I believe you could unwrap this ham and simply bake it according to the directions to have an absolutely awesome dinner (the delicious-smelling aroma that filled my kitchen as soon as I opened it is proof of that!), I chose to prepare it this way:
YaYa’s Baked Ham
What you need:
Ham (obviously)
Maraschino Cherries
Brown Sugar
What you do
Place the ham in a roasting pan then score the ham diagonally one way then the other, creating little diamonds. (The Kentucky Legend Ham was already scored so that made this much easier!) Stick whole cloves in a diamond pattern over the entire ham. (You needn’t put too many. Just every couple of inches.) Drain Pineapple Slices and reserve juice. Arrange Pineapple Slices over the surface of the ham with toothpicks. Put a cherry in the center of each of the Pineapple Slices. Be sure to remove cherry stems as they will burn while baking. Mix about 1/4 cup of brown sugar with reserved juice and brush over ham. Use this mixture to baste ham while it’s baking. Bake according to package directions.
Enjoy!
The Kentucky Legend ham was delicious, but y’all, it was also really good for our family because it was boneless so there was no waste! It was also much easier to slice. We enjoyed it for dinner then for sandwiches then as part of a delicious potato soup.
