Is anything as bitter to the tongue as words we have to eat?
I mean, a healthy helping of foot in my mouth ought to keep me tongue-tied for a while, right?
Even though I remember, my tongue seems to forget what they taste like when I have to eat them.
It happens so quickly, doesn’t it? A loose tongue and the prick of the Spirit that comes with the thought, “I shouldn’t have said that!”
So, what do we do when our tongues trap us?
Proverbs 6:2-3 says:
“If…you have been trapped by the words of your lips, ensnared by the words of your mouth. Do this, then, my son, and free yourself, for you have put yourself in your neighbor’s power: Go, humble yourself…”
The answer to words we have to eat? Humble pie. Humility. Whether our confession is to our kids, our friends or our Heavenly Father, we have to be humble before them. We must admit our mess and ask forgiveness. Then, daily, ask God to help us tame our tongues.
