Over the years, I have learned a few things about myself. One of them is that I have to take time to create things, so I tend to have a ton of hobbies. Whether it’s baking and decorating Christmas cookies, producing block prints from hand-carved rubber stamps, or painting multiple nativity matryoshka dolls for gifts last year, I thrive when I can be creative.
I’ve also learned that I tend to hyperfocus on one thing and then leave it completely behind to go and learn something else.
That’s why I love that there are so many home-based hobbies anyone can pick up at any time.
If you need to reduce stress, having a hobby or a creative outlet can help you relax. They can even help you bring in extra income if you need it! Take a look at this list and see if there are any relaxing options you might enjoy.
Take Up Calligraphy
Calligraphy is one art that amazes me. Truly, if someone doing calligraphy crosses my for-you feed, I’m watching. Every time. It’s the art of beautiful writing. That’s what the word actually means. There are endless tutorials, many books, and helpful videos online, so this is a hobby you can start today with only a few simple supplies.
Start Scrapbooking
Scrapbooking is a great way to spend a little time relaxing while creating something tangible to celebrate your memories with. You can include old photos, stories, and other thoughts in this. All you’ll really need to start with this are a few scrapbook layout kits and other bits and pieces. It shouldn’t take too long before you’re adding to your scrapbook every few weeks.
Learn an Instrument
I am not musical at all, but even I, like many other people, dream of being able to play an instrument. If you are one of them, perhaps learning to play an instrument is the perfect home-based hobby for you. There are countless online resources you can use to learn how to play it properly, and it’s a skill you’ll be able to enjoy and use for years to come.
Practice Painting
If I like a good calligraphy video, I LOVE to watch people paint. Especially watercolor. Sometimes, I let the fact I don’t really know what I’m doing stop me from painting, but the truth is you do not have to be a great painter to start painting. You’ll get better at it in time once you’ve been practicing it consistently. Practice might not make perfect, but it does make progress.
Home Workouts
Now there are those, like my older sister, whose hobby is exercise. I find it a little hard to fathom, but it’s true. After all, it’s always important to look after your health, and exercising is one of the best ways to do so. The good thing is that you don’t always have to go to the gym to exercise. Home-based workouts can be just as effective as long as you know what you’re doing. You don’t even need too much, or any equipment, and there are plenty of online tools that help you exercise at home.
These are just five of the many home-based hobbies you can choose from, so go ahead and get started!
