“Lala salama.”
It’s one of the Kiswhahili phrases I love and not just because it rolls off the tongue so easily.
Sleep peacefully.
Who doesn’t want to do that?
I know I do, and nothing short of a sick kid wakes me up more quickly than having the fitted sheet on my bed come off during the night.
It drives me crazy, and because our bed sheets were getting on in years (a lot like the people who sleep on them), it was beginning to happen all the time.
So why not just replace them?
We live in a perpetual state of renovation around here. Laura Ingalls may have lived in little houses, but I have lived in old ones. There’s always something that needs painting or fixing or pulling up or putting down.
So, redecorating our bedroom has been on the back burner.
I’ve painted my kids rooms time and again, but mine is the same green it was when we moved in 12 years ago. I liked it…then.
So, I’ve been scouring Pinterest and making plans, and when California Design Den emailed and asked if I would like to try their 400 count 100% cotton bed sheets, I quite literally jumped at the chance.
(Really, I jumped up and down I was so excited.)
Pair that with the lovely bedspread and shams my mom gave us for Christmas, and my bedroom is well on its way to redecorated. (Put your paint color suggestions in the comments, please. I’m overwhelmed by the options.)
Anyway, the sheets came right before Christmas, but I didn’t put them on the bed until after receiving mom’s gift. I wanted the new bed feel to be complete.
Crawling into bed after a long day of celebrating with our large family was absolutely heavenly.
The sheets are so soft, and they didn’t move off the mattress at all. If my kids are quiet and the laundry’s been put away, I can almost pretend I’m at a hotel somewhere.
These sheets are that comfortable.
I’d tell you that by the end of most days I’m just looking forward to the opportunity to crawl in bed with a cup of coffee and a good book, but since I’m a mom with four kids, I don’t think that would surprise you.
What might surprise you is how reasonably priced the sheets are. The king set is only $45.99 on Amazon with free Prime shipping. (You are a member of Prime, right? You get free 2-day shipping on so many things and have access to movies and tv shows to watch. Try it free for 30 days if you’re not already a member!)
You can tell in the pictures that the sheets were a little wrinkly, but that’s because they were washed, dried, and left to sit in a laundry basket for a *few* days before my kids folded them. For 100% cotton sheets, these really don’t wrinkle badly (if you don’t just leave them in the basket for a….while.)
If you’re looking to buy new sheets, consider California Design Den. We’re really enjoying the set we received.
Other items featured in the photo:
- The Little Library Cookbook by Kate Young – My baby sister gave me this book that she discovered in a book shop in London. I love it! It’s the perfect gift for readers who cook or cookers who read, featuring recipes for foods mentioned in so many wonderful books.
- I’d Rather Be Reading by Anne Bogel – Another gift from another sweet sister of mine! Reflections on a reading life. Such a great little book and great gift for the bibliophiles in your life.
- Anderson Geo Paisley Quilt – This quilt and the shams that go with it are exactly what I was looking for because I wanted something simple and bright. Mom got them for us for Christmas at Steinmart, and the price is very reasonable.
Now, if I can just pick a paint color! I’m leaning toward gray, but I don’t want to paint our wooden furniture. What colors would you suggest?
*Disclosure – I received a free set of sheets from California Design Den in exchange for an honest review. The opinions above are my own.
