Gossip.

Yeah, you know it. The giving and getting of information to which we really have no right.

Often we think of gossip in terms of the harm it can do to others, but Proverbs would have us consider the harm it does to us.

You see, for gossip to spread, someone has to say it and someone has to hear it.

And, even if you don’t repeat what you hear, gossip affects you.

“The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts.” Proverbs 18:8

What we hear become part of who we are.

It colors the way we see the world and the people in it.

It can affect the way we feel about our friends.

It can change the way we treat them, too.

Even if we never say a word.
