Ideas For Quality Time With Your Family

As our kids have gotten older, it has become harder to have consistent quality time with our family. Sports and school schedules, summer jobs, and social activities keep our kids going from dawn to dusk. And we are still carting some of them from place to place, too. We run year ’round.

Still, spending quality time with your family is vital in so many ways. It’s a way to grow a stronger bond and have some fun. The good thing is there are so many things you can do to spend time together…even in the midst of all the extra activities your kids have got going. Just be sure that when you are with your family you remove any distractions and be fully present in the moment. Here area. few suggestions for spending time together:

Go Out to Dinner

It’s always enjoyable to get a night off from cooking. If you’re looking for something to do, go to dinner as a group. A popular choice that kids and adults love is going out for pizza. There are many casual restaurants that you can check out that are family-friendly. It’s a chance to enjoy a tasty meal and talk to each other. Family meals are the perfect opportunity to have some quality time and fill your tummy. Also, if you aren’t having to rush to get dinner on the table or clean it up afterwards, mom might just have a more active part in the conversation.

Have A Movie & Game Night

Another great idea is to have a movie and game night. Choosing to watch movies is a chance to unwind and be entertained. Pick something that is good and that you will all enjoy. You may also want to make your favorite snack or have some popcorn. You can also use the evening to play some board games. Games are a great way to get kids to interact with you and with each other, especially the competitive ones in your family. You may also want to break out the video games and try to take on new levels as a family. That’s one way to enter into your kids’ world and be active in it.

Volunteer Together

There’s always someone out there who is in need. There are many charities and organizations that you can consider becoming a part of. Whenever you want to have some quality family time, consider volunteering together. It will teach your children healthy habits and the importance of being kind to others. You’re not only likely to have fun but can also meet some new people and other families in the process. Pick something that you all care the most about and then go out and do your part to help the community. You’ll all gain a lot of satisfaction from being able to give back to others and put a smile on someone else’s face.

I’m hoping our family can serve together on a mission trip soon. We want our kids to understand the importance of serving others and be active in obeying the Great Commission as well.

Play at the Park

Kids love to run around and be active, especially during the summer season. If you’re looking for something to do, head to a local park. There will likely be other people there that the kids can play with. They will have fun going on the slides and swinging. You may find it enjoyable to ride your bikes there as a way to take pleasure in one another’s company and get some exercise. You can always mix it up and try a new park that you’ve never been to before. It may also be fun to go for ice cream after.

When we were traveling with little ones, we often looked for fun parks along the way so our kids could stretch their legs, get some energy out, and we could have a few minutes of peace and quiet. It’s also a great way to have inexpensive lunch as you travel. Just pack a picnic, and you’re good to go!

How do you spend quality time with your family? I’d love to hear suggestions in the comments!
