If you love your children….

I have two two year olds. Yes, you read that right.

Two children in the terrible twos throwing temper tantrums all the time.

Sorry for all of the alliteration. Twins will do that to you. Around here, everything is multiplied.

That includes the need for discipline.

But, I’m betting you guessed that.

To be honest, I often dread the need to discipline my kids. Please tell me I’m not the only one.

I mean, time out works for one child. Taking toys away works for another. And tomorrow all of that will change. Again.

I just want them to learn to do what’s right, you know?

Sometimes, however, I just wish I could ignore the need to discipline them.

Because it would be easier.

Because at the time it would be less painful.

I mean, do you like to see your children cry? I know I don’t. It breaks my heart to punish them.

I could just skip it and say I love them too much to discipline them.

But, y’all, that would be a LIE.

Because God’s word says, “The one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.” (Proverbs 13:24)

So, if I love them, I have to teach them.

If I care, I have to correct.

And, it’s worth it because….

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:11)
