I went on a field trip with my daughter to the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians, and let me tell you…it was wonderful! There were different demonstrations about the lives of the Natchez Indians, and the kids really enjoyed them. One of the boys’ favorites (naturally) was about how the Natchez made tools and weapons. It was really very interesting.
They also really enjoyed seeing what a teepee looked like….
As well as a reproduction of an original Natchez Indian home….
One of the fun demonstrations was given by men who were dressed like trappers and traders and explained how Europeans lived as they traveled the area during times of exploration and settlement.
There was a small, but informative, museum that also had a few interactive activities that the kids enjoyed. And, a wonderful thing about the visit…it was absolutely free! I definitely suggest it as an outing to help your family understand a bit more about the history of our state and nation. Just be sure to call ahead and check for the schedule of demonstrations…you don’t want to miss them!
