Her name is Treza.  I call her “friend.”  Or maybe “sister.”  Because she is both.  My beloved friend and sister in Christ.  She is a living testament to me of how the Holy Spirit can bind the hearts of believers, closing distance and eclipsing time.

As young(er) women, we worked together.  We talked.  We dreamed.  And ever since, we have walked together from far away.  We got married one week apart, and my new husband I watched in Kenya as she said her vows.  Our children are close in age, and the oldest two of them met one day in Kenya as small toddlers.  The cuteness was almost too much.

I love Kenya, but it is people that I miss most when I leave.  I can’t wait to get home to my family, but leaving my friends is bittersweet.  So, in the wise words of a woman named Cherry, “We never say goodbye. We say ‘see you later.'”

Tutaonana badaye, Treza.
