Do you know the easiest way to find out what is most important to a person?
Look at his life.
How does he spend his time?
How does she spend her money?
What does he say?
What does she do?
It may be true that you can’t judge a book by its cover, but you can tell a lot about a person’s inside from how they act on the outside.
And, let’s be clear. I’m not talking about judging people. Let’s leave that to God, but we are wise to examine the fruit of people who want our trust.
We’re also wise to examine our own fruit as well because….
“As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.” (Proverbs 27:19)
I once did a science experiment that required colored water and celery. As the celery soaked up the water, it began to change color. Eventually, what was on the inside showed on the outside.
We are no different. We might try to cover it up with pretty words and good deeds, but eventually, the inside comes out.
