“Remember Who You Are ” – Words of wisdom from The Lion King for Simba….and for us!
We finally got around to taking our kids to see the new Lion King movie today. We’ve been so busy that we haven’t had a chance, and anyone who knows our twins can tell you they are absolutely obsessed with big cats of all kinds.
So, yeah, they were excited.
I wasn’t so sure.
I mean, the original Lion King was perfect, right? How could they possibly compete with that? It’s like the let down that the live action Beauty and the Beast was for me. I know there is an entire generation of people who will always think of Emma Watson when they think of Belle, but I’m just not one of them.
If that dates me, so be it.
(Don’t even get me started on Will Smith as the Genie in Aladdin. Robin Williams was perfection in that role. End of discussion.)
The Lion King, however, pleasantly surprised me. I still prefer certain parts of the songs from the original, but they had me at sweeping views of the African savanna.
The story’s still the same though, and there’s still some truth to be found in it.
The one I walked away from today is “Remember who you are.”
Simba needed that reminder, and sometimes so do we.
I particularly loved the reminder that his father lived in him because as Christians, the same is true for us, whether we act like it or not.
We can find ourselves stuck in the past, plagued by bad memories or guilt just like Simba was, and failing to live the life for which we were created.
It’s just as sad in our lives as it was in Simba’s. More so, actually, because Simba is just the make-believe son of the king of Pride Rock while we are the children of God.
It’s time we start to live like it.
So, today’s free printable and SVG file is a simple reminder to “Remember Who You Are.” There are actually two files for you, and I hope you’ll enjoy them. The files are free to my subscribers so sign up below! Please use them for personal use only.
