When I read Proverbs 7, I realize just how easily we can be led astray. I mean, like the “youth who had no sense,” I too live among the “simple.” And, like him, I sometimes walk carelessly down some pretty dangerous paths.
Because, he was blind to the danger, and sometimes so am I.
Because seduction seeks us out, doesn’t it?
The woman in Proverbs 7 sought him out. (v. 15)
Our enemy pursues us, too.
Like this youth, we walk into some places without wisdom.
We forget that our “enemy the devil prowls around looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)
And, like the unwise youth, we often walk right into his den, don’t we?
So, what can we do?
Resist him. (1 Peter 5:9)
“Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her path.” (Proverbs 7:25)
Be alert and stand firm in the faith. (1 Peter 5:8-9)
And, most importantly:
“Keep my words and store up my commands within you.” (Proverbs 7:1)
So that we can say, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11)
