It may be February, but it was 85 degrees here the other day so summer doesn’t seem quite so far away. Now is the perfect time to start getting your home ready for the season of warm weather and outdoor activities. Here in Mississippi, summer comes quickly, and you know you want to be ready for all the fun the season brings. Your home should be ready, too, and there are a few simple ways to be sure it is.
Clean The Windows
Okay, when it comes to cleaning windows, I have to confess that I fail miserably, but the truth is that windows are quite literally the eyes of your home. It’s the first thing people notice when walking past your property and, as such, are a key part of your curb appeal. That’s why it is absolutely worth investing in professional window cleaning to keep your windows looking beautiful. You can also clean the inside of your windows yourself if they are constantly plagued with new smudges and hand marks. A problem we moms are all too familiar with.
Get Ready To Garden
In addition to cleaning my windows, I need to get busy with my garden. My husband will take care of the veggies, but I need to do a little lovely landscaping. When it comes to planning, I have to focus on a low-maintenance garden. I know myself, and if it’s too difficult, I won’t do it. Perrenial plants like lantana and hydrangeas work wonderfully in my yard. Enjoying your garden in summer should be something on the top of your to do list.
Eradicate Pests
Of course, no one can enjoy summer in Mississippi when mosquitoes are a menace. The good news is there are a number of ways to get rid of them. One of my favorite ways to fight them is to fill containers with mosquito-repelling plants like citronella, lavender, rosemary, basil, and marigolds. Those herbs do double duty, too, adding flavor to your summer dishes. Of course, you can always contact your local pest control company to help with the problem, especially if you have a water source nearby. New HVAC System
Lastly, it’s much too hot down here to deal with an AC that isn’t working. if you are fed up with your home feeling like a furnace then it might be time to invest in a new HVAC system. We replaced our home’s old AC about five years ago, and it has been so reliable and more cost-efficient. Finding a reputable company that can fit your new HVAC system isn’t an easy job. Make sure you are checking reviews before you hire anyone. It’s an expensive home improvement, and you want to be sure you get what you’re paying for.
These are just a few important things to consider as you prepare your home for the summer season. What would you add? How do you prepare for summer? I’d love to hear in the comments!
