“Don’t you just love New York in the Fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” (You’ve Got Mail)
Granted, this time of year, Mississippi probably has very little in common with New York in the Fall, but the steamy days of August do get me in the mood to buy school supplies. I love them! Always have. When I see displays like these, I cannot help but want one of every kind of marker.
It’s true. But, I don’t need them all. Neither do my kids. There are, however, some things they can’t do without.
Socks might make a boring Christmas gift, but if your little boy is anything like mine, he needs as many white pairs as possible, which is why I love that Fruit of the Loom has bonus packs available at Wal-Mart. Thanks to their “Underwear for Overachievers” Campaign and the bonus packs they have at Wal-Mart, I was able to stock up on socks for my son and tank tops for my daughter…as well as other supplies to get the school year off to a great start!
She was thrilled when she saw the pink tank top in the package. And, the backpack. Pink and sparkly? She was sold.
By the way, I’m just wondering if anyone else feels like they are shopping in 1987 or something? We got a bright pink backpack and neon pencils. Neon everything, actually.
I would have used this in the 80s. It would have matched my hi-tops.
Besides the pink tank, we love these because they are perfect for layering, and (like the 80s) layers are in. At least among the eight-year-old girls I know. These will be perfect with so many of her outfits this fall.
We enjoyed shopping for all the basics and a few fun things for Fall. Fruit of the Loom‘s Underwear for Over-Achievers Campaign made it possible, and they’d like to do the same for you. One of my readers will win a $75 gift card to Wal-Mart, provided by Fruit of the Loom. Just use the widget below to enter the giveaway!
It might not be a “bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils,” but it’s definitely the next best thing, right?

Back to school for the husband! We had to buy new shoes and pants, as well as band camp supplies (including a gazillion mechanical pencils). Hope everyone is school ready!
thanks for sharing this!! 🙂 I always love buying school supplies and this year I noticed they sell crayons in packs of one color! my son laughed at me because I love the smell of crayons lol
I HATE school supply shopping, but mostly because I think the lists are so detailed and specific that it makes it complicated 🙁 I wish I had your enthusiasm.
I HATE school supply shopping, but mostly because of the overly detailed and specific lists required. I wish I shared your enthusiasm!
easy experience this year, found everything I needed and saved a bit of money.
I am done with back to school shopping this year. My son is starting his school tomorrow. I bought most of the back to school supplies at Walmart.
I haven’t started shopping yet! EEk!
Our kids are still young enough where they are not overly particular about what they wear. We let them pick out what they want, but “brand” was of zero importance.
We still need to get backpacks and crayons.
we are mostly done but we need some more folders
Hello neighbor (hattiesburg, MS)
It was easy because i did not have to buy much because i had a lot from clearances throughout the year
it was torture! all the stores were packed!
I love buying school supplies because when you homeschool they can basically pick out the things they want. We don’t have to follow a list and I love that.
I love school shopping! It was our first so not much, but I still love it! And I love that movie, too, by the way!
I haven’t started yet!!! Yikes!!!
I love back to school shopping – since its usually the only time im organized!
I have been a little busier than usual since my daughter is starting Kindergarten, so I will have 2 kids in school. I have purchased a lot of what they need so far, but we are not finished.
I did all my shopping this past tax free weekend. Great deals!
I did not have to do much yet this year. I am waiting for the school list.
i havent gone yet
I’m running behind, way behind. It will be slim pickings
Our back to school shopping experience went quite well. The fact that a laptop for the one going to college made it quite an expensive trip, though!
Thanks for doing this! Back to School shopping is so much fun!
I still have to get a couple things for my son to get back to school. He hates to shop which makes it tough!
Well I saved alot especially with staples great school specials during the end of the summer and with our “last” no tax weekend we were able to get my daughter at least two pair of shoes and a few uniforms so it went quite well
Oh we tried to start really early this year picking up a few things at a time, so it didnt hit us all at once. Gets so expensive! But, we got a good start, but still a bit to go yet!
I started early this year so avoid crowds so it went pretty well
Love to hit all the sales. 😀
Every year we look forward to shopping for new items to make the year seem special. I clip coupons and watch for sales. This makes it easier on the budget!
I don’t have children so I the only back to school shopping I do is for basic school supplies to donate at Publix.
my daughter starts back to college shortly-she stillhas to buy supplies 🙂 thanks
The stores were really busy but I found lots of good deals.
I tried to start early and do several little trips
I still have some time left to do my back to school shopping so ask me when I’m done. 🙂

I waited longer than I wanted and felt as though I didn’t have as good of a selection to pick from as I hoped for.
Is it bad that we haven’t done any yet?
