Five-Minute-Friday-4

Join us at Kate’s for Five Minute Friday!  Each week, we write for five minutes on a single topic then visit other bloggers’ sites to encourage and be encouraged.  I hope you’ll join the fun!

I live in the midst of a whole lot of yelling.  I mean, from two toddlers and their tantrums to a little boy who couldn’t whisper if he tried, I know noise.

And, if my children aren’t screaming at me, the world is.

From the blaring beep of a late-night amber alert this week to images of suffering from a world away.

From constant status updates to status envy, a paralyzing condition caused by the pressure to do everything “Pinterest Perfect.”

Silence is difficult to come by these days.

And all the more precious because of it.

You see, most days, what I need more than  anything else is to hear the still small voice that says, “This is the way, walk in it.”

But, when everything is loud, it’s hard to listen.

I’m distracted by the blaring and deafened by the blasts.

And, often, it’s volume I can turn down, things I can turn off.

If I choose to.

And, I must.

Because often the most beautiful things are the ones whispered.

From hushed goodnights to hurried hellos…

From secrets shared to dreams divulged…

A status update from a face-to-face friend, coffee in hand…

A Psalm on my lips…

A prayer from my knees..

And the voice that spoke the world into place speaking peace to my heart.

(As is fitting, this post was interrupted by cries of “Mommy” more times than I can count…so we’ll just call it “five minutes” and be done.  I told you quiet is hard to come by!)

    Stopping by from FMF!

I completely understand. As I type this, WW3 is happening outside my bedroom door (where my poor husband is trying his best). Thanks for pouring out your words. For choosing to do so, even when it’s hard. For tuning out to what beckons to you (and doesn’t matter) and tuning into those right before you (who do matter).
