This week’s list of favorites seems a bit random, I know, but so has this past week. It started last Friday night at the after hours clinic with my older child, trekked right on through the baby’s vomit Saturday to Wednesday’s diaper explosion (in which I realized we were out of wipes) and yesterday’s scary encounter with a neighbor’s dog. Let’s just say that encouragement in any form has been welcome this week. Here are a few places I found it:
- Sparkles. As in on shoes, on belts, on scarves, on anything. My daughter is all about sparkles right now so she was ecstatic when we found some silver glitter sneakers on sale at the Gap Outlet in Vicksburg last month. She likes them almost as much as her Skechers Twinkle Toes but not quite because though they sparkle they don’t light up. And, you just can’t beat sparkly shoes that light up. At least not around here.
- This link that a friend of mine shared on Facebook earlier this week. You can watch Nairobi traffic live from different parts of the city. It brings memories flooding back to me, not the least of which is the memory that when I lived in Kenya, I would occasionally watch the “Grove Cam” during the middle of the night on Ole Miss Game Days because I knew my family was there….somewhere. They even went and stood in front of it and waved once. This was pre-Skype so seeing them “live” was a very emotional thing for me. Who would have thought that ten years later I’d be watching Nairobi’s traffic in much the same way…just minus the emotion. I miss a lot of things about Nairobi. The traffic’s just not really one of them.
- And finally…(because you knew there had to be food)…. Lindt White Chocolate Coconut. I’m just warning you: there will be a recipe that features this in the near future. It is absolutely delicious. So rich and creamy and coco-nutty. I just sat down, closed my eyes and pretended I was in a place that looks as exotic as this stuff tastes. Then I started envisioning cupcakes. Go figure.

My sister said that she has never wished for dawn more than the night that all three of her girls were sick. She said that when the sun finally came up she knew they had made it through. I wished I could have reached through the miles and done just about anything for her. I’m glad that you found something that helped you not feel so alone.
How very cool to see your family live on the camera so many years ago. I bet that was one of the coolest things ever 🙂
