When it comes to renovating your home, it’s natural to get excited about putting in a new kitchen or bringing in a creative feature. But that’s not the only thing that can bring a lot of joy to your life. In fact, one of the biggest areas that will, isn’t inside the home at all! When you want to really bring your home alive, don’t forget about the garden! A beautiful garden adds so much to a home, offering a peaceful tranquility, pops of color, and a welcoming air.
Find Some Inspiration
To get things underway, you will want to make sure that you’re looking online for some inspiration. With sites like Pinterest, you can look at different designs and styles to see which appeals to you the most. I love to keep ideas on Pinterest, and here’s a link to my board all about gardening.
Decide on What You’re Going For
Next, you’re going to want to focus on what sort of design theme you want. As you start to figure this out, it might mean moving a tree or changing things around, which will allow you to create the look that you want. It’s important for you to make a decision on what’s going to work best, then prepare your garden for it. This is an area in which I need a lot of help! I need a vision. Fortunately, I know a few people who always have a vision for their properties, so I try to learn from them. If you know someone whose garden you admire, ask them about it! Chances are they will be more than happy to share inspiration and information.
Focus on the Major Areas First
If you know that your yard needs a lot of work to get to where you want it to be, you’ll want to get that underway first. Think about anything that needs ripping out or any hard landscaping work that needs to be done. This might include replacing your fencing or putting down any patio or decking areas. For us, getting rid of old, overgrown shrubs and finding the right replacements is at the top of the list.
Bring in Your Plants
Now you can look to bring in your plants and flowers, which can make it feel like your garden is really coming to life. The hard landscaping will mean that the space really takes shape, but your plants and flowers will give it shape. Think about the kinds of plants you want and which options will work with the style you have chosen, but also be sure to consider what will work in your area. You can then start to add them in and create a beautiful outside space.
Create a Living Area
Finally, make sure that you have the perfect living area to enjoy. This makes your garden an extension of your home, allowing it to be an outdoor respite and a place for hospitality. Be sure you have an area in which you can get some sun, but also ensure that you have a shaded area to take advantage of, too. You might want to opt for a sofa area and even bring out an outdoor rug. Don’t forget planning an outdoor dining area as well. Also, remember not to forget your accessories, like lighting and even a fire pit. These little additions will really allow you to make the most of the space.
