Is Jesus really the only way?

Welcome to Encouraging Word Wednesday!  If you’re new here, welcome!  If not, welcome back!  Each week through Easter, we’ll be looking at the names of Jesus, and I hope you’ll join us and add a link to one or two of your recent encouraging faith-filled posts.  I look forward to reading them!  This week, let’s take a look at the fact that Jesus is the Way.

Do all roads lead to heaven or is Jesus really the only way? 12 Bible Verses to Answer that question

When I lived overseas, I had a neighbor who followed another world religion.  He was friendly and kind, and his family invited my visiting family over for dinner one night.  He and my father discussed all sorts of things that night, and I’ll never forget one of the things he said.  After asking my dad about his faith, my neighbor asked him if agreed, in effect, that all roads lead to heaven.

My dad had to say “no.”

He said it respectfully,  but he was clear because Christ was clear.  After all, Jesus did say, “I am the way.”  (John 14:6)

He didn’t leave other options open, and neither can we.

Now, if you’re a Christian reading this, you’re probably thinking “I know this already,” but I’ve had people who claim to be Christians tell me they’re not so sure anymore so I think it’s a good idea to remember why we as Christians believe there is only one way.

If you’re not a Christian, I am so glad you’re here, and  I hope you’ll read this post with an open mind and heart.  When you’re done, I pray you’ll have more understanding of what Christians believe and why.

Anyway…

Why We Believe There is Only One Way

The reason we believe there is only one way is because Jesus said so.  In fact, he said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

He said it.  We believe it.

It really is that simple.

Or, at least it should be.

The truth is, however, we can be deceived by the wisdom of the world.  The idea that all religions are really the same or that faith in any “god” is good enough or that being good will get you to heaven or that karma is king….all of these things sound  sensible, but they are not scriptural.

And, if we’re Christians, we have to believe the words of Christ.

His whole word, from beginning to end, points to the fact that there is one savior, and his name is Jesus.

Today, I thought I’d share with you 12 more scripture passages that tell us so.

12 Scriptures that Say Jesus is the Only Way

John 10:9 – “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.”

Acts 4:12 – “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given unto mankind by which we must be saved.”

Acts 16:30-31 – “He then brought them out and asked, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ They replied, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.'”

Romans 10:9 – “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Romans 10:13 – “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

1 Timothy 2:5 – “For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Jesus Christ.”

1 John 4:15 – “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them, and they in God.”

1 John 5:1 – “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Son of God is born of God.”

1 John 5:11-12 – “God has given us eternal life, and this life in in his Son.  Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son does not have life.”

1 John 2:23 – “No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.”

Hebrews 7:24-25 – “Because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood.  Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him because he always lives to intercede for them.”

John 3:16-18 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”

Charlie, I’m so thankful that you’re sharing these essential truths. As you said, it really should be that simple, but in this post-Christian world, it no longer is … even among professing believers. Please keep speaking the truth in the winsome way you do. Blessings on you and your ministry.
