Moving? 4 Ways to Lesson the Stress and Enjoy the Process

Most people enjoy the idea of moving to a new home, but when it actually comes to it? Then it’s a different story. Ask homeowners who have recently moved to their homes about their experience, and they’ll typically tell you that it was much more stressful than they imagined it would be. The prospect of settling into your new chosen home is exciting, but the actual act of moving can be headache-inducing.

If you’re planning a move soon, you should take a proactive approach to avoid the stressful parts and to enjoy the moving process more. Below, you’ll find four ways to make the process more manageable…and more enjoyable…for everyone.

Honor Your Existing Home

Many homeowners get so wrapped up in their new home that they forget that they might feel a little emotional about leaving their current property. Even if you know moving is the right thing to do, moving can be bittersweet, especially when you have many happy memories of your time in your current home.

Keep that in mind as you prepare to move, and don’t ignore hte fact that you’re leaving a place you might hold close in your heart forever. Hosting a final dinner for family and friends is a nice way to close one chapter as you open another.

Minimize the Stressful Elements

Many homeowners, especially first-time movers, underestimate how stressful the moving process can be. While it’s unlikely that you can eliminate stress entirely, there are certainly things you can do that’ll keep stress at bay.  Working with a good realtor, having all your key documents well organized, and checking out local moving companies to transport your belongings to your new home can help keep your stress levels manageable. You might also consider taking a few days off work before/after the move so that you’re not trying to juggle too many things at once.

Rope In Friends

Everything is better with friends and family by your side! And it’s even more fun when they’re there and don’t have to do anything overly complicated. If you choose to hire movers to transport your belongings, you won’t need your friends to move your things for you. Instead, they can stop by to simply offer moral support, share a meal, and generally help to keep things light and lessen your stress. Sharing a laugh with a friend is a guaranteed way to diffuse any potentially stressful occasion! They can also help pack a few boxes if you’ll let them!

Find Your New Favorite Places

Finally, remember that it can take a little bit of time to settle into your new home, and that can make you feel a little lost and uncertain. One way to get around this is to find your new favorite places around your new home, such as a nice coffee shop/park/store. Explore and look for places and people that make you start to feel at home.
