Naptime for Everyone!

So, it’s VBS week around here, and I have to say that by 2:00 in the afternoon, the kids aren’t the only ones who need a nap.  Oh my!  I’m exhausted.  I have no idea why I should be more tired this week than any other.  I mean, I’m with kids all day every day anyway, right?  But, there is something about VBS that just wears me out.  Kind of like a day of swimming.

We are all enjoying it though.  Even my littlest two, who turned two this week.  To celebrate, we just cut a cake with family.  Actually, we cut two cakes.  Because there are two of them, and everyone should have her own birthday cake, right?  The cake was just a pillow of pink with a pink twiga on top.  (“Twiga” is the Swahili word for “giraffe,” and my girls take their stuffed, pink “twigas” everywhere they go.  We bought them when we found out the twins were girls, and they have been well-loved these past two years.)  I thought you might like to see the cake so here it is:

The giraffe was molded out of candy clay, which is an easy alternative to fondant, which I was not in the mood to make this week.  You simply melt one bag of Wilton candy melts then add 1/4 cup of corn syrup.  Mix it together and pour it onto wax paper.  Once it cools, you can form it any way you like.  Easy!  I have never put quite so much icing on any cake before, but i thought the ruffled look was perfect!  When one of the girls saw the giraffe, she pointed and said, “Baby!” which is what she calls her giraffe.  That’s not what my husband said when he first saw it.  He said, “Mooooo…” and reminded me that giraffes generally have longer necks than what these started with.  Constructive criticism, you know.

Things have gotten quite so the kids might all be napping.  Maybe I can, too?
