Rescuing Teen Mothers in Kenya

Happy Wednesday, everyone!  I want to kick this week’s Encouraging Word Wednesday off by announcing the winner of last week’s giveaway!

Congratulations, Angel Penn!  Email your mailing address to me at charlie at mississippimom.com, and I’ll send a copy of Learnable Moments for Moms your way!  If you haven’t read Angel’s blog, visit today!  She writes so many encouraging posts about marriage and faith.  Check it out!

Speaking of learning as moms, I have to say that one of the best gifts God gave me as a new mom was the gift of other women who had “been there, done that.”

I’ll never forget the day my older sister drove an hour just to come show me how to bathe my first baby.  That little girl was so slippery!  I was sure I’d drop her, but with my sister’s help, I figured out just how to hold her with one hand while washing her hair with the other.

I was 28.

I can’t imagine having to learn that and so much more at the age of 13.

Which is why my friends at Njoo Dada do more than just provide a safe place for teen girls in crisis.

They teach them the ins and outs of being mothers while also providing safety, nourishment, healthcare and education….not to mention sharing the love of Christ with the girls daily.

It’s a place where young girls who are afraid and hurt find hope and healing.  They go from living in chaos to living in peace.

And, I love to be a very little part of it.

You see, the Njoo Dada home was founded by some very dear friends of mine in Kenya.  They are Kenyan women who are trying to help young girls, but to be honest, they need our help to do so.

They have an urgent need for a new home for the girls and their babies.

A European NGO in Kenya has promised to build a new home for the girls if Njoo Dada can purchase the land to put it on.

They only have until July 1 to have their new home ready.

Can you help them do that?

A website I do freelance design work for has started a fundraiser to help raise the money  for the land.  It’s a Facebook fundraiser, and all of the money Merchant Ship Ministries (the non-profit I started in 2011) receives through the fundraiser will go directly toward the new home.

You can give here:

If you’d like to know more about Njoo Dada, let me introduce you to my friend Lunar Odawa:

Njoo Dada needs $10,000 to purchase the land for the home.  Our goal is to raise as much as possible this week in honor of International Women’s Day, which is March 8.

Will you help us?????  Any amount (no matter how small or large) will mean so much!  Also, if you can’t give, please pray that God will provide and share the Facebook post above, encouraging others to donate.

I really appreciate it.

Also, I really appreciate your participating in Encouraging Word Wednesday each week.   Link up below!
