I received this book just before Christmas and had hoped to have a review for you long before now. Better late than never, I hope.
When the book arrived, it disappeared…which is a good sign because I found my daughter reading it nonstop over the next few days. She loved it from the first page.
Mom Made Us Write This in the Summer is the summer journal of twins Maggie and Max Pruitt, written in their own words and handwriting. Their mom made a plan with certain assignments, and they recorded the events of the summer and their thoughts about them in the journal. They also made comments on each other’s journal entries.
My daughter found it very entertaining and true to life, as she would laugh and tell me that she and her brother sometimes did the same things as the characters.
She has already asked me if there is another book.
Lucky for her, there is a family quiz book and a journal she can keep, which is the really great thing about this book: it did inspire her to keep a journal of her own.
The book, which was written by Ali Maier, was written for exactly that purpose! Maier “wanted to write a book series that would allow readers to laugh and encourage them to write and share their own stories,” according to the book’s website.
The website is a fun place to visit, just as the book is fun to read. There is a section for journaling ideas, too.
Overall, we really enjoyed this book. My daughter read it quickly and was a bit sad when she was done. In my mind, a book can have no better recommendation.
