Tuesday’s Tip: Beat the Heat (A Review)

It’s getting hot out there, y’all!  The humidity is up, and so is the temperature. My family is beating the heat with an above-ground pool from Backyard Ocean, and we are loving it!

Last spring, after years of debating and several mind-numbing, ear-splitting and head-aching days of having huge machines breaking up an enormous (more than 50,000 gallons) concrete pool in our backyard, my husband and I breathed a sigh of relief over lower energy bills and heightened safety.  I was very sad to see it go.  But, the reality is that with all of our small children, I knew we wouldn’t use the pool much because when I am home alone with the kids, I do not feel I can safely supervise ALL of them by myself.  Others may be able to do it, but I just had to realize that I can’t.  When we added the cost of needed repairs, upkeep and daily maintenance, the best decision was to let it go.

But, when the weather gets hot, I miss it!

So, when Backyard Ocean offered me an opportunity to review one of their products, I jumped at the chance.  I mean, it’s hot out there, y’all!  (Did I say that already?)

Of course, I learned a little lesson when I told my husband about the opportunity.  Note to self:  ask husband BEFORE accepting an above ground pool for review.

He wasn’t quite so thrilled about it.

He envisioned difficulty in setting it up.  He imagined trouble taking care of it.  He reminded me about our safety concerns.

And, after the weather cleared, and he finally set it up, he found out (much to my relief), he was wrong, and I can tell you:  he is enjoying it as much as the kids because he truly loves to see his children having a good time.

And, y’all, they are.  They love it.  The pool we received is this one:  9′ x 26″ Float to Fill Ring Pool Set  .

It is just large enough for all of us to play in together and just shallow enough that our twins can stand up and walk around.  Our four year old is more confident in the smaller setting than in larger pools and is bravely going under the water and really beginning to swim.  We’re letting him practice some before taking him to my sister’s pool to see if what he’s learning will transfer to a larger pool.

The upkeep is easy as the pool comes with a pump.

And, much to my husband’s surprise, the setup was not difficult either, though he felt the instructions were a bit lacking.  (It’s the engineer in him.  Y’all, I was afraid the Chicken Coop Incident was going to happen all over again.  I mean, just put some water in it already!)  Thankfully, once he relaxed and forgave me for gifting him with another thing to do, he found it was simple and easy and fairly fast.

Yes, I was given the pool for review purposes, but if you are looking for some summer fun on hot July days, the products you’ll find at Backyard Ocean are reasonably priced.  Check them out!  I know I’m glad we did.

Disclosure:  I received the pool from Backyard Ocean, but the opinions are my own.
