Tuesday’s Tip: Sweet (Easy) Treats for your Valentine!

It’s February 1 so I thought I’d share a few simple ideas for Valentine’s treats…these are easy and delicious and perfect for the special people in your life!

Easy Cookie Bouquet:

The photo above is of sugar cookies on lollipop sticks with icing and sprinkles…and here’s the super easy secret:  You can use store-bought dough and icing!  Oh, they might taste a little better if you do it all from scratch, but they probably won’t be any cuter!  Back in the day, my mom also would put a dozen heart-shaped cookies with simple red and pink glaze on floral wire in a rose box with green floral papers…perfect!  Much more tasty than regular old roses…and much cheaper, too!

Valentine’s Pretzels:

I wish I had a photo of this one, but it’s so easy to do…and so much less expensive to do yourself!  (Really.  I saw these at a craft store just yesterday.  A pack of 2 was several dollars…good grief!)  Buy a bag of pretzel rods and some chocolate (you can use any kind or you can use red, pink and white melting candy).  Melt the chocolate.  Holding one end of the pretzel, dip 3/4 of the stick in chocolate.  Decorate by drizzling other chocolate or by adding sprinkles or both.  Put in a treat bag with a pretty bow!

Quick and Easy Petit Fours:

Tiny heart-shaped cakes?  Come on…who wouldn’t love that!  And remember that thanks to Sara Lee, they’re very easy to make! Here’s the glaze recipe if you need it.

Candy-Covered Marshmallows

My daughter and I made these for some of her friends once, and they were quite a hit.  We made the marshmallows ourselves using Mary’s recipe, but you could always use the kind you buy as well.  We just melted white chocolate and dipped one end of each marshmallow in the chocolate then in candy sprinkles.  The kids loved them!

Chocolate Truffles:

Valentine’s Day and chocolate go hand in hand, right?  These truffles are perfect…and easy to make!

What are some easy Valentine’s treats you’ve made?  Are you making anything special this year?
