8 Creative Ways To Use Concrete In Your Home

Concrete isn’t just for parking lots and sidewalks. It can also have a place in your home and in a lot more ways than most people realize. When you think of concrete, you might envision it as gray and dull, but it can actually be a very beautiful and versatile material. You can stain it and print it to mimic various types of natural stone at a fraction of the price. It can also be easily formed into many different shapes, much more easily than many other materials, which makes concrete a great material for many different uses around the home. Below are just 8 creative examples.

Patios

Concrete can be a great material to use for a patio. It’s relatively cheap and can be laid as a smooth flat surface or as paver tiles. While the weather can eventually cause concrete to wear, products like Nano-Particle: Clear Concrete Sealer can delay this, helping your patio to look good for years to come.

Fire pits

Because concrete is fire-proof, it makes an excellent material for an outdoor fire pit. This could be integrated into a concrete patio. Alternatively, you can buy freestanding concrete fire pits in the shape of large bowls. It’s worth noting that fireplaces can also be built out of concrete.

Countertops

Did you know that you can also build countertops out of concrete? I’ve been considering it for our kitchen for years. A polished gray concrete countertop could give your kitchen a stylish edge. It’s also possible to buy concrete countertops that look like granite or marble at a fraction of the cost of the real thing.

Staircases

When building staircases, concrete can be a sturdy option that can be easily customized to form an array of shapes. This includes curved and spiral staircases. It’s particularly ideal material for sculpting outdoor staircases, but can be used for indoor staircases, too.

Feature walls

Adding concrete to a single wall could help it to stand out. You could opt for smooth concrete for an industrial feel, a faux-natural-stone effect for a more rustic look, or even create an imitation exposed brick wall using concrete in the shape of bricks. Polished concrete could also be used as an alternative to wall tiles in a bathroom. It’s waterproof and easier to clean than tiles because it doesn’t have grout. (I hate trying to keep grout looking clean.)

Planters

You can also buy planters and vases made out of concrete. Such pots are great for windy backyards because concrete is so heavy. It keeps you from having to worry about your planters blowing over. You can even make your own concrete planters by following this Cement Ideas Tips video.

Sink basins

Sink basins can also be made out of concrete, and they can be sculpted into all kinds of unique and wonderful shapes. Such a sink could be integrated into a concrete countertop or vanity or even placed on top.

Roof tiles

I had no idea that concrete also makes a great material for roofing. It’s very durable and fire-resistant. Concrete can be shaped into roof tiles to mimic a stone tile roof. If you’re looking for a roofing material, take the time to explore different tile patterns.

Have you used concrete creatively in your home? I’d love to see how!
