Grandma always said: Be careful what you ask for…

You just might get it.

Yesterday, I took both the kids to see the pediatrician. One had a yearly check-up; the other had a cold.  Both got shots.  Usually my husband goes with me on such visits, but he couldn’t get away from work so the job of holding down one kiddo while holding the other was all mine. We survived it though and even felt like tackling a few errands in town, until…

The slightly annoying allergies I had woken up with yesterday morning turned into such a bad head cold I didn’t know how I was going to be able to drive home.  The kids were hungry, and I was hurting so we stopped and ate dinner then I put them in the car for the long ride home.  They slept; I sneezed.

On the way home, I was making a mental list of all I need to do to get ready for my daughter’s birthday party this weekend and getting very anxious because I’ve gotten really behind this week.  I need to clean the whole house, create a castle cake and come up with fun party games…all in the next 24 hours.  If I’d been able to breathe, I would probably have started hyperventilating so I prayed instead.  I prayed (with some pretty serious desperation)  “PLEASE let him have cleaned something.”  Then, “At least, let him have folded the laundry.”

When we got home, I walked in the door and looked to the right…right into my laundry room, where I had left three baskets of CLEAN clothes.  The washer was running.  The dryer was running.  And, my husband came smiling to meet me.  I said, “So, you washed the clothes?”  Yes!  He did.  All of them.  He even washed (read: re-washed) the dishes in the dishwasher.  But, bless him, he did get the extremely clean clothes folded.

So, remember:  Be careful what you ask for…you just might get it.  Or, in other words, pray specifically because God does answer prayers!

I’m off to clean the dirty things in the house now…
