Mom life is busy life. There is always something more to do. Jobs, hobbies, and social commitments, not to mention all the delivering kids to and from their many activities, make your schedule hectic and your days full. Keeping your home organized and clean can feel daunting if not impossible. Making it a comfortable haven for you and your family often feels like more of a luxury than what it really is: essential.
In a stressful world, your home should be the one place that works for you, the place you rest and relax, not just another thing on your to-do list. Making small, practical changes can definitely make your space more comfortable and, ideally, relaxing. Below you’ll find some practical home comfort tips for busy moms.
A Kitchen That Works For You
The kitchen is the heart of the home, but if it’s a constant mess of spills, dishes, and confusing crumbs, it’s never going to feel quite right. The key is organization, but that’s not just about color-coding and making lists (although that can be useful if that’s something you like to do!).
Simple tricks like making sure essentials are within easy reach and having a designated spot for lunchboxes and snack supplies can make a world of difference. Plus, what about air quality? If you’re like me, the kitchen is the first room in the house you enter. Lingering smells from last night’s dinner are definitely not going to make your kitchen feel comfortable or your guests feel welcome, so effective range hoods are important. The fan will quickly whisk away cooking smells, grease, and even steam, and your kitchen will be lovely and fresh as a result. It’s an easy upgrade that can have your home looking a little more like HGTV than it might right now.
Keep The Clutter Under Control
Let’s be realistic for a moment. Kids are messy, and when you have them, a certain amount of clutter comes with them. Toys, school bags, random socks… it’s a daily fight to keep the clutter under control. There is a small change you can make that helps keep things manageable.
A few well-placed storage baskets can scoop up rogue toys, books, and the various ‘treasures’ your children like to find and keep. Picking up the random items and putting them away is a quick and easy way to make a room feel better. And let’s not forget paperwork. Homework, artwork, mail and more. It drives me mad. Having a designated spot for important papers like permission slips, letters, or even special drawings, means you’ll always know where things are, and your home will be tidier, too.
A Bedroom You Love
If your bedroom is a bit of a dumping ground for laundry and half-folded clothes, you are not alone. I will get the whole house in order only to walk into my bedroom and be surrounded by all the things that need a new home. It’s a shame because my bedroom needs to be the most relaxing place for me. It’s where I rest and unwind, and I’m hoping a few small changes and tweaks will turn it into a place I actually want to spend time.
Fresh sheets, a clutter-free nightstand, and some strict rules about putting clothes away rather than leaving them all over the place are just some of the things you can do to ensure your bedroom is exactly how you want it. Then it’s a case of trying to get the right amount of sleep, but that’s a story for another day The first step is getting the room just right. Even some smart window coverings can help make sure you set the right ambience in your bedroom.
This week, I’m focusing on clearing my own clutter. The kids’ is either under control or out of sight. I’ll be tacking my bedroom and taking control. What are your goals for your home this week? Do you have any tips or tricks to share? I’d love to hear them!
