Prepare hearts for Christmas by making an Advent Wreath!

No, it’s not too late!

Many Christian churches use 3 purple and one pink candles in a circle with a white Christ candle in the middle. For home use , you may find packs of Advent candles. But if not, use what ever color you can find. Here’s a photo of ours this year.

In my SS class we have all four red and the white Jesus candle. Because …I got a large box of red candles less than 1/2 price last year!

For me the point of home worship is to emphasize the spiritual side of Christmas. As we gather at the table for meals, we say the blessing as usual but  4 weeks before Christmas, light a candle and reflect on the coming of Christmas!

Advent, Latin for coming or arrival, is a great time for Christians to focus on a word a week as you sit to enjoy a meal together !

Let the Advent wreath be a vehicle for reflecting and praising God together as a family. Or as a family of one.

More next week!

For 2012:
Dec. 2. Light candle of HOPE!
Dec. 9. Peace!
Dec. 16. Joy!
Dec. 23. Love!
Dec. 25 CHRIST candle!

Remember, in our struggles, sorrow, and pain; in our blessings, happiness and joy, the Christmas message of
Matthew 1:23; Immanuel: GOD IS WITH US!

Blessed Advent! Love, Nana

About Ginger Caughman

Ginger Caughman, who writes "Notes from Nana," has encouraged me time and again in both my walk with Christ and my role as mom. She is a writer and a friend…and a lot of fun! I know her words will encourage and uplift you. They’ll probably challenge you, too. She loves writing, teaching, singing…but most of all she loves the Lord. In addition to "Notes from Nana," she writes book reviews for MississippiMom.com, having worked with books from all angles, as a teacher and school librarian, church librarian, trustee for years on the St. Charles Parish Library Board, writing for Media: Library Services Journal and her favorite, reading as a mother and grandmother!

Great idea! I’ve not heard much about Advent until this year, and I’m excited to gather all of these ideas for next year! Thanks!
Also, I wrote about my Nana today too! Don’t you just love Nanas?! 🙂

Oh! Ha! I thought this was you writing about your Nana’s Advent wreath. Then I saw that it’s actually “Notes from Nana” – either way, love it!
