Tuesday’s Tip: When you need a double boiler…

Somehow, in my kitchen full of dishes (and there are A LOT of dishes in my kitchen), I do not have a double boiler.  It’s really kind of funny considering how many cooking utensils and gadgets I’ve been given over the years because no one has ever thought to give me one.  Probably because I’ve never asked.  And, the reason for that is the fact that, although many recipes “require” a double boiler, you don’t have to have one.

You can use a small saucepan with water and a larger glass or (as I did last week when I made my Chocolate Covered Caramel Brownies) metal bowl.  It actually worked out well because I only had to dirty the one bowl.  I love things that make life easier!

Just be sure that the bowl doesn’t actually touch the boiling water.  Oh, and my mom told me you have to really careful because of the steam.  I told her that I hope anyone working over boiling water is being careful….but keep it in mind!
